Public Records: Business Records

You can search usually search individual State Department websites to locate general information on businesses, including registered addresses and officers, as well as obtain copies of various filed documents.

• Pennsylvania, visit the Business Entity Search (PA's Bureau of Corporations)

• Delaware, visit the Entity Search (Delaware Division of Corporations)

• New York, visit the Corporation & Business Entity Database (NYS Division of Corporations, State Records & UCC)

• New Jersey, visit the Business Registration & Records (NJ Business Portal)

In general, public companies are required to file financial information with the Securities & Exchange Commission.  These filings are available to the public for free through the SEC's EDGAR database.  Forms such as the 10K, which is an annual reporting form, provide information such as a company's history, executive pay, and financial statements.
