Pennsylvania Statutory Research: PA General Assembly Web Site

This guide reviews the history and current status of the Pennsylvania statutory codification project, and lists electronic and print options for Pennsylvania statutory research.

Overview

The Pennsylvania General Assembly's Web site provides free options for searching the Pennsylvania statutory codes. The most useful resource provided by the Pennsylvania General Assembly's Web site is free access to an unannotated version of  Westlaw's Pennsylvania Statutes and Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes database.

Researchers can use this resource to search for Pennsylvania statutes using keyword searches, or by browsing the table of contents. This resource also provides the text for Pennsylvania's Constitution and Pennsylvania's court rules.

The General Assembly's Web site also posts the current official versions of the Consolidated Statutes of Pennsylvania and the Unconsolidated Statutes of Pennsylvania. LInks to these resources are found in the Law Information section of the Web page. As these databases aren't complete, they are of limited use for comprehensive legal research purposes.
