Anti-Protest Legislation: Arizona

Bill that requires state higher education institutions to set up policies and reporting on free expression at campuses. The law sanctions protests or demonstrations that infringe on another's free speech. The law was first read on February 6, 2018, passed both chambers and was signed by the governor on April 25, 2018.

HB 2007, as introduced in January 2018, originally forbade masks and disguises at certain political events. It was later amended to make the use of a mask during a criminal offense a factor in sentencing. This link is to the bill as introduced.

SB 1142 was introduced on January 19, 2017 and referred to the Judiciary and Rules Committee. The Judiciary passed the bill that same day. The Senate passed the bill by a vote of 17 - 13 on February 22. On Monday, February 27, 2017, the speaker of the Arizona House said he would not move the bill, effectively killing it.
