The Voter Project

#powerthepollsPA Digital Toolkit | August 2020

Drexel Universiy Kline School of Law is collaborating with The Voter Project and offering pro bono credit for students who work the polls on election day. See here for details: https://drexel.edu/law/about/news/articles/overview/2020/September/pro-bono-election-day-polls/

"During the Pennsylvania primary on June 2nd, there was a shortage of poll workers which led to voter confusion, consolidation of polling locations, and historically long wait times. This is voter suppression, plain and simple -- and it's up to us to make sure everyone who wants to cast a ballot in Pennsylvania can do so safely. Can you sign up to work at your polling place today? Poll workers who are appointed for an assignment by the County will be:

1. Paid for their time.

2. Fully trained by a team of experts.

3. Provided with personal protective equipment (PPE).

If we want to deliver justice for everyone who calls Pennsylvania home, we must come together and make this year’s general election a success. Sign up to learn more about becoming a poll worker and ensuring that every single vote counts."

Election Protection and Volunteering

Please consider checking out the Election Protection 866 Our Vote website. Here's some introductory information about them:

"Election Protection– led by the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law – is the nation’s largest non-partisan voter protection coalition. Through the 866-OUR-VOTE hotline and our voter assistance field program, Election Protection helps ensure eligible voters are able to participate in our democracy while collecting data for meaningful reform so that our elections are free, fair, and accessible.

We are currently recruiting volunteers in a number of states across the country to help voters in 2020. Please note that we recruit volunteers in the states where they live and cannot support deployment to other states.

An excellent place to start is at the Work Elections website. Here you can search your state and county to streamline your poll worker volunteer application process.

Another great volunteering organization is Power the Polls. Depending on your local district, if you volunteer through their organization, you may even have the opportunity to get paid for your service. Their aim is to get a quarter of a million people to sign up, prioritizing the low-risk and aiming for diverse representation.
