The NJ Board of Public Utilities oversees regulated utilities, such as natural gas, electricity, water, telecommunications and cable television. The Board hears petitions filed by the utilities, rate payers, and other interested parties. It can also undertake matters on its own initiative. The Board can review a petition itself or submit it to the Office of Administrative Law for an initial decision, after which the Board can accept, alter or amend it.
