New Jersey Administrative Law: NJ Board of Utilities

Guide to administrative law research for New Jersey

Overview

The NJ Board of Public Utilities oversees regulated utilities, such as natural gas, electricity, water, telecommunications and cable television.  The Board hears petitions filed by the utilities, rate payers, and other interested parties.  It can also undertake matters on its own initiative.  The Board can review a petition itself or submit it to the Office of Administrative Law for an initial decision, after which the Board can accept, alter or amend it.

Some decisions are available at the Board's website.

Lexis has Board opinions from 2001 to the present.  There is a delay of five weeks before published decisions are made available online.

Westlaw has the decisions of the Board and its predecessors going back as far as 1953.
