Philadelphia-Area Legal Services: General Legal Information

Guide to institutions and organizations that provide free legal assistance to the general public.

Bar Association Referral Services

Each of the following bar associations provide lawyer referral services. If you can pay for a lawyer but do not know how to find one, they can help you find an attorney in your area who provides the type of legal services you need. These services do not provide direct legal advice, but they endeavor to help callers determine if the problem is a legal one, by screening and when possible, referring non-legal matters to county, government or consumer agencies as appropriate. Some services may charge a referral fee.

Law Libraries

If you need to research the law for yourself, you may wish to consult a law library. Law libraries have access to information that may not be available on the open web, including secondary sources that explain the law and specialized databases. Law librarians can help you find appropriate reference materials for your needs, but cannot answer specific legal questions or assist you with drafting legal documents.
